Ladies and Gentlemen – The Struts!

Love a band with tons of energy, great songs and a killer stage presence??

Then I give you

You want to know more right?

Well that’s just a taste of what front-man Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott, and drummer Gethin Davies can do. Although they haven’t had what some would consider mainstream success (YET!!), they’ve been together since 2009 and have toured the US steadily for the last few years.

Maybe you’ve heard of them, maybe not but I am sure you’ve know a couple of band they’ve hit to road with; The Rolling Stones, The Who,  Guns N Roses and most recently the Foo Fighters.

Dave Grohl praised them numerous time while touring and went as far as saying:

“They’re the best opening band we’ve ever had”

What makes The Struts unique, but not, is their retro/classic sound. When I say they aren’t unique what I really mean is they have a sound that will seem or easily become familiar. This isn’t a bad thing and if you’ve heard them or watched the clips in this article you already understand. If not then imagine merging the modernized sounds of The Rolling Stones, Bay City Rollers, T. Rex and, without question, Queen; for a young band that’s pretty impressive.

When I mention The Struts many people don’t know them, say that’s the band trying to be Queen or bring up Greta Van Fleet and how they are trying to be Zeppelin. I think both these bands are bringing back music/sounds that appeal to not only a new generation but fans of all ages. The HUGE difference with these two bands is the live show.

This isn’t meant to take anything away from Greta Van Fleet as they are another great band but the energy level of Luke Spiller and The Struts is off the charts.

From the moment The Struts take the stage, it doesn’t matter if it’s a headlining show or opening for one of the biggest bands in the world, Luke has the crowd in the palm of his hands. If the crowd isn’t singing, clapping or waving their hands along then he’s interacting with them in some way throughout the entire set.

I’ve seen them a few times but recently caught them on their second, sold out, Bowery Ballroom, New York City show where Luke totally commanded the stage and audience. The Struts sounded fantastic as they blasted through a high energy set with the same ease as Luke rolling R’s or the word baby off his tongue.

The 100 minute show kicked off with ‘Primadonna Like Me’ into ‘Body Talks’ which they recently re-recorded with Kesha and ‘Kiss This.’ Continuing on with a new song “Fire (Part 1)” they made their way through a 15 song set that included all their hits some more new songs as well a great rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’.

Here’s the full set-list from October 3rd 2018 in New York City

Bottom line, if you’re looking to escape life, like I sometimes am, then seeing The Struts is an amazing way to do it. Trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed and that you don’t even need to know their music. By shows end you’ll be singing your ass off with new friends you hadn’t met yet.

You can see for yourself how it ended in NYC

With multi-night sell outs across the country I am sure The Struts won’t be at these smaller venues for long so make sure you get out there and see them.
