The Next Escape – How this blog came to be..

The truth is I never intended to write a blog.

As this blog continues and morphs into whatever it will be, when it grows up, you’re sure to learn a lot about me but, how did this start?

Well as I mentioned in my first post, I believe everyone has a book in them. Now I realize this blog isn’t a book but stay with me for a few minutes.

There I am sitting outside a Home2 Suites in Middletown NY speaking to my friend Ken before heading over to hang out for the day with my friends (band & crew) in Night Ranger. You know the 80’s band, Sister Christian?? Guaranteed if you don’t know the band, you definitely know the song.

Anyway, I’ve known these guys for years as a good friend that both Ken and myself grew up with is their tour manager. The Rangers, as I like to refer to them jokingly, were in Middletown opening for Vince Neil of Motley Crue and since Middletown isn’t but a couple hours from my home, as soon as the Foo Fighters played their last note at MSG, I headed up there to see my friends.

So it’s the morning after the Foo’s waiting to head to venue, coffee in hand, sitting outside, chatting on the phone with Ken. Ken was about to publish a new book, he’s written a few and created some short films too (check out his website as well as his books on Amazon).  During the discussion I mentioned how great it is he’s doing all this and that I have thought about writing a book for years. I also made the statement that I believe everyone has a book in them. Ken responded by saying something like yes, everyone does have a book in them but that doesn’t mean anyone wants to read it!

WOW! That’s a great point, one that for the next few seconds resonated with me.

In my head I’m thinking well I have some good stories, started working in clubs at like 15, had a radio show in college, traveled a good part of the world, had/have a successful career and have definitely had some crazy stuff happen to me over time. Would people want to read it?

Of course I didn’t say any of that, the conversation just continued with Ken saying ‘I think you could write a book’ and he repeated some of what was in my head above. I again said I’ve thought about it and even tried to start a couple of times but what would I write about, where do I start, would people care? He went on to say well just all the concerts you go to, that you drove a few hours after back to back nights at MSG to see the Night Ranger guys, that you get on planes to see concerts, your love of music, that could be a book.

To which I responded “yeah maybe but that’s just me Escaping Life 3 Hours At A Time..”

In a split second Ken said “That’s the book! and a great title.”

So how did the book become a blog? Well it didn’t as I still have some great ideas/thoughts for the book and I believe I’ll write it, and maybe others as well one day; maybe I’ll start that today too!

However over the next week or so I came to the conclusion that I’ve been escaping life for more than 3 hours at times and doing it all my life really. I mean sure I had been working  real jobs since I was like 14 and actually had a ‘career’ that I sometimes worked too much at but I also found my escapes along the way through my love of travel, history, cooking, starting to do concert photography years ago which led to me writing some reviews and of course, the one that’s always been with me since I was a child, music.

All those things are escapes, aren’t they? I started thinking everyone or at least most people have them. Some people it’s going to the beach or I have friends that go fishing every weekend, others that play baseball, my friend Nicole started her own blog to inspire others after surviving cancer but we (all that know her) know her true escape is getting her nails done weekly LOL! It’s true!

My point is most of us have an escape(s) so I decided to turn all of my escapes into a blog or more so a website focused around a blog to see if people are interested in reading. Obviously I hope they are and maybe I’ll even make a dollar or two but at the end of the day it’s just me escaping one post at a time.

Sign up,  maybe my blog will be your escape!

*** BTW both Foo Fighters MSG shows as well as the Night Ranger/Vince Neil show were great!! ***
